move well, run well…

Come and spend a day learning how to move more naturally, with strength and fluidity, in the beautiful south Devon countryside, in the company of Joe Kelly and Adharanand Finn.

These days, more and more people are discovering the benefits of natural movement, which is something Joe has been working on with runners for over 15 years.

Adharanand has worked together with Joe for much of the last 10 years, honing his trail running skills, building up his resistance to injury, and learning to move more efficiently, which has led to him feeling easier and more fluid when he runs. Since meeting Joe, Adharanand has run personal best times at every distance from 10km to 100 miles, and he has completed almost 20 ultra marathons.

Plan for the day:

Meeting at 11am at Totnes train station in south Devon (to encourage the use of public transport), we will head off on a run of about six miles (10km), stopping along the way to explore natural movement through a series of games and activities.

Through play - from clambering over fallen down trees, to three-ball catch and Maasai jumping - Joe will teach us how to move our bodies more naturally and effortlessly, and introduce us to exercises and techniques we can then use at home or in our training to help us become better runners.

Joe uses everything from Anatomy in Motion to Parkour to his own unique insights help you find the best way to move quickly and efficiently across any terrain.

We will stop for lunch at a local cafe, and the day will finish back at Totnes train station at around 4pm.

Adharanand Finn

Adharanand Finn is the author of three critically acclaimed books, Running with the Kenyans, The Way of the Runner and The Rise of the Ultra Runners. This is a chance for you to spend time with him and grill him on all he has learnt during his research, which has taken him from Kenya to Japan and into the darkest pain caves of the ultra running world!

Joe Kelly

Our movement maestro Joe Kelly, who features in Adharanand’s books, uses playful games, as well as techniques such as Anatomy in Motion, to help you run more fluidly and naturally - and with less chance of injury. He has devised a system for movement he calls Finding Form, which he will introduce us to on the day.

prices:

The price for the workshop is £45 per person.

Difficulty:

Although the run will be about six miles, the pace will be easy and we will have plenty of rests. As long as you are happy clambering around and jumping and running short distances, you don’t need to be an experienced runner - this is for runners of all levels.

KIT LIST:

You will need trail shoes and warm running kit in case it gets cold - including a windproof jacket. We will stop for lunch at a local cafe, but you can bring your own packed lunch if you prefer. A water bottle and/or a running pack with water bottles is advised.

“It doesn’t matter how often I’ve heard some of it before, I always get something new from Joe’s sessions”
