This photograph is from a series taken by Marietta d’Erlanger of the 2011 Lewa Marathon. She was documenting the race for Adharanand Finn, who ran in the same team as Shadrack in the 2011 race while writing his award-winning book Running with the Kenyans.

This image won the Judge’s Choice Award at the 2012 Association of Photographers Open Awards.
